When is the 2007 Australian Masters Championships being held and where?
The 2007 Australian Masters Championships will be held in Hobart at the Domain
Athletic Centre from Friday 6th to Monday 9th of April 2007.
Who is eligible to join and how much does it cost?
All men and women over thirty years of age are eligible to join, be they social,
amateur or professional. Current subscription rates are $40.00 single and $60.00
couple.
What age groups do they compete in?
Competition is carried out in five year age groups for both men and women, for
example M30 equals men aged 30-34 years, W45 equals women aged 45-49 years.
Is there anything I should do before competing?
Unless you have been involved in regular exercise for many years then a medical
examination is advised. A recommended brochure to read is Mature Aged Sport
- Fitness Into The Future as prepared by the Australian Sports Commission and
Australian Sports Medicine Federation, this brochure is available from the secretary.
What competition is available?
On a local level, the Association conducts weekly Track & Field Programs,
both in Hobart and Launceston, during the Track & Field season and which
normally run from October to March. In addition to the above we conduct annual
Championships in the following events:
• Track & Field All Events
• Multi Events Pentathlon, Heptathlon, Decathlon
• 10K Cross Country
• 10K Road (Both Run & Walk)
For those extra keen athletes, National Track & Field Championships are
held every year at Easter, hosted by each State on a rotational basis. The pre-vet
categories of M30 & W30 are eligible to compete. If you have the finances,
you can also compete at World Championships, which are held every two years,
competition being now available for both Men and Women over the age of 35, in
5 year age groups.
The 2007 Australian Championships will be held in Hobart.
Are records for each event kept?
Our Statistician maintains records for all events, in the various age groups,
along with the processing of claims for National and World records.
What other events or activities are conducted?
Both in the North and the South of the State, we conduct regular Fun Runs, usually
on a Sunday. A Cuppa or BBQ, whereby members can relax with their family and
enjoy the more social aspects of our Association, follows all runs.
Does the Association compete at Interclub competition?
Tasmanian Masters Athletics Inc. (TMA) is an affiliated Club with Athletics
Tasmania (AT) and, as such, competes as a Club in the various Branch & State
competitions (particularly in the south). Those members wishing to dual register
with the TMA & AT (club of choice) please contact the Secretary for further
details.
How do members know what events are on and when? The Association
publishes it s own Newsletter Footnotes , which is either posted or e-mailed
to all financial members every month. From April 2005 (Volume 26, Nunmber 3)
are available to be downloaded in the Footnotes
section of this site.
